Certified copy of marriage certificate rejectes by the Greek Embassy

Is the sponsor an EU/EEA or Swiss national ? To what extent is freedom of movement still restricted for same-sex couples in the EU ? Do you have experience of immigration bureaucracy in other European countries ? Please also visit EU/EEA page in the main website

Certified copy of marriage certificate rejectes by the Greek Embassy

Post by zodiacking » Tue Jul 30, 2019 8:56 pm

I went to thr Greek embassy to get a short stay tourist visa as I am planning a holiday to Greece with my Italian husband. We got married in the UK but the original marriage certificate was given to the Italian consulate in order to have a church wedding in Italy. So we presented a certified copy of the entry (which was perfectly fine for many other countries and authorities) and got rejected because it eas not the original!! We then phoned the UK registry office who said that they can not issue the original certificate anymore and will only provide the certified copies which should have the same legal effectiveness.

Did anyone come across the problem?
